Jackson

The only thing wrong with waking up at my parents’ house is that Jade isn’t here with me. I know my folks would love her and hate they’ll never meet. I think she would love London as well. She loved my accent well enough that being surrounded by people talking like me would probably turn her on, and that would totally be to my benefit.

Last night, I did the last thing I said I wouldn’t do—sit on various social media sites, trying to find Jade’ profile. Of course, it was fucking hard looking for someone I know nothing about, and I don’t think technology has mastered the ability to search for someone by the curve of their body, or the shape of their lips or how perfectly our hands fit together. Maybe in my next life, that’s something I should consider patenting. I also hit a blank when I searched for her name although I knew that was a long shot given it wasn’t her real name. I rub my hand through my five o’clock shadow, remembering how much she liked it, especially when she was sitting on my face. I thought about shaving every day while I was there, but I only trimmed it so that it was the perfect length for her.

In hindsight, if I could do it again, I would still play along with her game, but I’d make sure that I take a load of photos of her so I had something to remember her with. During the time we were together, I never saw her with a camera or a phone and it may well be that she’s not a social media addict like most people. I don’t blame her, social media nowadays can really be a brutal place, with online trolls thinking they know everything. Taking a break from looking for her for a moment, I open my profile page and quickly change my name so that it says Jackson. Only my mum calls me by my given name; to everyone else, I’m known as Jay.

Putting the word ‘Bermuda’ in the search field doesn’t help much either, instead bringing up a plethora of random photos and related links. Neither of us thought to take any photos while we were on the island, instead enjoying the limited time we had with each other. Normally, I’m not someone who insists on having my photo taken, but I must admit that this time, I’m sorely regretting not getting Jade to pose for a few. If I had, I wouldn’t have the problem I’m having now in finding her.

Of course, the thought has crossed my mind that maybe she doesn’t want to be found. Why else would she give want to play the fake game? Maybe everything she told me was part of the game, and she wasn’t single after all. For all I know, she may be happily married with 2.4 kids and a dog. I absolutely don’t want to believe that though.
